- Less than 50% of foster care youth will graduate high school
- Less than 5% of foster care youth will earn a four year degree
- Less than 50% of former foster care youth are employed 2 ½ - 4 years after leaving foster care
- 27% of the homeless population spent time in foster care
An integrated advisor or mentor is important in bridging the gap for students navigating education and career life choices. Generally lacking a social network because of multiple placements, youth in foster care are particularly at-risk. Without it they fall back onto the social welfare and penal systems over and over again.
Our Mission
The R.J. Leonard Foundation educates, initiates careers and personally mentors young adults who are aging out of the foster care system; we empower them to succeed, free of government assistance for the rest of their lives.
